Investing in the Future: Our Commitment This National STEM Day
National STEM Day (November 8th) celebrates the thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers shaping our world through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. At MS, it’s more than just a day on the calendar — it’s a reminder of our responsibility to support and empower the next generation of innovators.
Building Tomorrow’s Workforce
The facilities management and engineering sectors are evolving rapidly, driven by sustainability, technology, and innovation. To keep pace, we need to inspire and equip young people with the skills and confidence to succeed in these areas.
As proud members of The 5% Club, we are committed to ensuring at least 5% of our workforce is made up of apprentices, trainees, and early-career professionals. Developing talent isn’t just good for business — it’s essential for the future of our industry.
Our Commitment to Supporting Young People and Employability
At MS, we are in the process of organising initiatives to support young people and have made a formal commitment to a local council to deliver these opportunities. Our plans focus on:
Mentoring and Guidance
We are working on partnering with schools and colleges to provide mentoring, particularly in sustainability, energy, and engineering, helping students explore career pathways and build confidence.
Promoting STEM Pathways
We are developing ways to encourage young people to pursue STEM subjects and to showcase the real-world impact of careers in engineering and facilities management.
School and Community Partnerships
We are collaborating with a local council to link classroom learning with practical experiences, from CV writing to career workshops, giving students a tangible understanding of how their skills can contribute to the green economy.
What Success Looks Like
Through these commitments, we aim to achieve:
Greater confidence and employability among young people.
Increased interest and aspiration in sustainability and technical careers.
A growing pipeline of talent ready to contribute to future growth sectors.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate National STEM Day, we are looking forward — not just to the next project, but to the next generation.
By delivering on these commitments, MS aims to help young people turn curiosity into confidence, and potential into profession. Because the future of our industry — and our communities — depends on it.
